RE: Labor Day Travel Advice - Avoid downtown Atlanta

I'll go you one better. Avoid every thing east of the Mississippi River. Or we could just stay home. Wouldn't that frost the oil companies.

RE: They want to Buy my campsite!?!?

That's the exact reason we stay in private parks with a reservation and avoid holidays.

RE: Best park in Wyoming?

Try Deer Park in Buffalo! Very nice and has a pool. However, fire rings I don't remember seeing

RE: CG's Santa Fe and Durango

We would recommend Santa Fe Skies and Alpen Rose. Especially Alpen Rose. Great place and super staff

RE: Sacramento area via I-5 to Portland/Seattle

We have stayed at Seven Feathers RV/Casino in Canyonville OR several times. We love it and will stay there anytime we're in the area. It helps that everytime we've stayed there we have won at the slots enough to pay for parking and one time we paid for parking, meals, and fill up of gas.

OR Lone Mt. Resort

Seeing recent ads for a new(?) RV Resort in SW (O'Brien) Oregon. Close to the CA-OR border. Anyone stayed there? Any comments?

RE: East Yellowstone

Yellowstone Valley Inn has big level gravel sites for your 40 fter. Right on the Shoshone River and very scenic. Try their web site.

RE: Anyone been to/or going to Leavenworth Wa for Oktoberfest?

The KOA is tight and not level sites. Place is OK for small to medium size rigs. A better bet is Icicle River RV, but you definitely better get reservations NOW.

RE: Traveling times

The fact that you are asking leads me to believe that you don't think it possible! Let alone probable. For us we would not even raise the question. It would be a resounding NO! This would be a hurried 7 day trip for us or a comfortable 8.

RE: Electrical cord hook-up to Truck

We towed our 5ver for 3 years with one truck (and receptacle)and everthing was tight. Our current truck (new receptacle) has always been loose. Spring is fine. Our remedy was to use a wire tie to clamp the retaining cover down. Worked fine just had to have a pair of wire snips handy. We then found a cheaper and better solution. At Christmas time and grandkids birthdays their toys come tied to cardboard packaging with humongous super strong twisty ties. They really work. They're free and no snips needed. I keep a spare looped through a vacant hole in my hitch.

RE: I fried my brakes

We use a Prodigy controller and set it at Boost 1 for normal freeway driving. However, we do go to Boost 2 for steep mountain passes (6-7%)or more. We have 32,000 miles on our rig and TV and 5ver brakes are fine.

RE: fifth wheel that can be pulled by 1/2 ton pickup

Looks like you already bought a truck and since it's unreasonable to trade up at this point, you'll have to make do. We have a 24 ft 5ver weighing 6500 lbs loaded (hitch weight is 1010 total gross is 13000). We did tow it with a 1/2 ton, 2001 GMC 1500, initially. I'd recommend keeping your 5ver weight at 7000 lbs (including hitch weight) or less.

RE: Coach too old?

Some of the VERY successful TOP END RV Parks such as Grizzly RV in West Yellowstone, Zion River RV, Seven Feathers in Canyonville OR, etc. welcome all types of RVs, don't specify age conformity, and stay full. They will be around when the hotsy totsys have went under.

RE: Elevation questions

We have traveled all over the western (west of the Missouri River) USA. I have Parkinson's and my wife has congestive heart failure concerns. We have no problems were we go. However, we do not go hiking, we limit our activities to non strenuous endeavors and we take it easy if we have gone from our near sea level home to over 8000 ft in just a few days. The only places we've had to back off were Trail Ridge Rd. in Rocky Mtn NP (12,000 ft) and Breckenridge CO. (9,000 ft, didn't want to go shopping anyway). We will continue to RV as long as we are mobile.

RE: Worries about new campers, etc. ???

We have been RVing for some 10 yrs and over 50,000 miles. We take an extended trip or two each year lasting 3-6 weeks and 2500-6000 miles. On every trip something has gone wrong. Anywhere from a simple window blind clip breaking, to electrical problems with the trailer brakes, to landing gear failure. Our joke each trip is "what will it be this trip". Things always happen on holidays or Sunday when service is not available, right! Well now we just solve the problem and our on board equipment and hardware kit grows every year. Heck it's half the fun of RVing.

RE: bottom of screen and dogs

We had the torn home screen door replaced by a local door company with a special pet screen material for $ 63 and warrantied for 3 yrs. See no reason that would not work on our RVs and at a lower price. Still have good ventilation.

NE USA Adventure

We have traveled extensively in the western half of the USA over the last 7 years and have just returned from an Alaskan Land/Cruise tour. The one place we have never been is the NE part of the USA. Specifically; Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Conneticut.
We do not want to drive the RV (5th wheel) all the way from Seattle, especially with $4 gas prices. Also we have been to all the other 46 states (not RV ing). Not real crazy about flying, but we're considering flying to the area and renting a Class C.
Looking for suggestions as to renting, costs, time needed, and things to see. It would be in Sept 09.
